With the G80 and G90 the sole models of the new stand-alone Genesis brand for two years, the question naturally arises what the nascent marque has been planning for its next entry in the automotive market. We now have the answer - the 2019 Genesis G70. This sport sedan slots under its larger siblings and is poised to battle it out head to head with German luxury sedans like the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the BMW 3 Series. The Genesis G70 debuted in the United States at the 2018 New York Auto Show and is expected to arrive at dealers like the Maple Shade Genesis dealership in July 2018.

The G70 shares its platform and engines with the Kia Stinger, but that's where the similarities end. The folks at the Maple Shade Genesis dealer explained the 2019 Genesis G70 is a sedan, while the Stinger is a hatch. The G70 is offered with a manual transmission, something you won't find on the Stinger. Finally, the cabins have different styling.

Five drive modes allow drivers to modify engine response, engine sound, steering and AWD torque distribution (for models with AWD). The different drive modes will also change the response of the adaptive electronic suspension system that comes with the V6 Sport trim.

Genesis estimates fuel economy for the Genesis G70 with the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder and rear-wheel drive will be 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway. The 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 with AWD should get 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway.

For even more precise handling, buyers can choose the optional Dynamic package, which includes a limited-slip differential. Brembo high-performance brakes (four-piston front and two-piston rear) are also available. Genesis G70s with 19-inch wheels get Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Michelin's best high-performance tires.

Inside, you'll find an 8-inch infotainment display with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay compatibility. The G70 features exclusive touches like brushed aluminum, Nappa leather trim, stainless steel speaker covers and soft-touch surfaces with stitching. Audiophiles will love the optional Lexicon premium audio system with 15 speakers, which Consumer Reports called one of the best they'd ever experienced. Standard safety features include blind spot monitoring, a forward collision avoidance system that includes pedestrian detection, a driver attention warning system and lane keep assist.

On the outside, the G70 looks like a smaller Genesis G80, with a distinctive grille, sharp body lines, angular headlights and attractive multispoke wheels. The G70 is about 5 inches shorter than its Kia Stinger cousin, with a wheelbase that's about 2-inches shorter.

Of course, the 2019 Genesis G70 gets the famous Genesis warranty, complete with the brand's outstanding complimentary services, including 3-year/36,000-mile free scheduled maintenance. Also included is the Genesis valet service, which picks up your Genesis vehicle at your location when it needs service and provides you with a loaner.
