The 2019 Genesis G80 is a midsize luxury sedan that features everything you'd want in a vehicle in this class, including head-turning looks, a choice of powerful engines and plenty of standard features. While the G80 costs less than most competing vehicles, it also comes with many features you'll only get on rivals as expensive options, which makes the G80 even more of a value at dealerships like the Genesis Dealer in Philadelphia.

The 2019 Lincoln MKZ is a midsize luxury sedan that competes with the 2019 Genesis G80. If you've been considering buying either car, you'll want to read our comparison review as we compare the G80 with the MKZ to discover which one emerges as the better vehicle.

The Genesis G80's standard engine is larger and more powerful than the Lincoln MKZ's base powerplant. According to Genesis Philadelphia, the G80 gets a standard 3.8-liter V6 engine that develops 311 horsepower and 293 lb.-ft. of torque. The MKZ's standard engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that only makes 245 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque. The G80's V6 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which provides faster acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. The MKX only gets a six-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy

The Genesis G80 runs on regular unleaded gasoline, although premium is recommended on the 3.3T Sport trim. Buyers who choose the MKZ equipped with the 3.0 turbocharged V6 must use premium gasoline, which can cost 55 cents more per gallon than regular. Additionally, the G80's fuel tank can hold 6.3 more gallons than the MKZ, which means MKZ drivers will have to make more trips to the gas station.

Everyone wants to be safe when they're riding in a car. Both vehicles have many safety features, but the 2019 Genesis G80 comes with a number of safety features that aren't available on the 2019 MKZ, such as anti-whiplash head restraints. And the G80 beat the MKZ in NHTSA crash testing, with the highest rating of five stars overall. The MKZ only received four stars.

The 2019 Genesis G80 is more reliable than the 2019 Lincoln MKZ. According to J.D. Power and Associates, the G80 took second place in the organization's 2018 Initial Quality Study. The MKZ didn't make it into the top three. Overall, Genesis vehicles ranked higher in initial quality than Lincoln models. Genesis took first place, while Lincoln checked in at seventh place.

Needless to say, no automaker's warranty can compete with Genesis. The Genesis G80 includes a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty. Compare this with MKZ's 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty. The G80 comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, vs. 6 years and 70,000 miles for the Lincoln MKZ. Finally, the G80's warranty includes free scheduled maintenance for 3 years and 36,000 miles. This includes oil changes and other scheduled maintenance items. Lincoln MKZ owners only get the first scheduled maintenance visit for free.

We believe the 2019 Genesis G80 and the 2019 Lincoln MKZ are both great cars. They're evenly matched in some areas, but when you look at both cars side by side and consider categories like the powertrain, vehicle safety, reliability and the warranty, you can only conclude the 2019 Genesis G80 is the better car.
