A number of Asian automakers are looking to upstage the established order in the upper reaches of the market at the moment, especially when it comes to sedans, coupes and grand tourers. If German manufacturers rest on their laurels, luxury automakers like Genesis and Lexus are ready to overtake them. This is perfectly illustrated by the 2019 Genesis G70, which you'll find at a dealership like Genesis Dealer Conshohocken, or with the 2019 Lexus RC. Let's see how good they really are by comparing the Genesis G70 and Lexus RC.

It seems Lexus wants to imitate the prices of German cars as well as rival the cars themselves. The most affordable 2019 Lexus RC is the rear-wheel-drive RC 300, which has an MSRP that starts at $41,145. Instead, for just $34,900 you can have a rear-drive 2019 Genesis G70 2.0T Advanced at Genesis Conshohocken and Genesis dealers throughout the United States. It's hard to justify a difference of more than $6,000 when you examine these two cars head to head.

Both cars offer a choice of four-cylinder and V6 engines, but the 2019 Genesis G70 has a definite power advantage. The standard turbo-four in the G70 develops up to 255 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the Lexus RC equivalent can only manage 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It's an even bigger gap with the V6 units as the Genesis boasts 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, compared to a best of just 311 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque from the range-topping Lexus RC 350. The G70 is available with six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions, but there's no manual option for the Lexus.

The 2019 Genesis G70 is a sensational looking car, but its obvious sporty nature hasn't been overplayed by the designers. The usual sporty styling cues are all there, such as a large aggressive grille and air intakes, but the premium nature of the car is also reinforced by the overall design. Some people will love the way the 2019 Lexus RC looks on the outside, but it would be easy to imagine an equal number of potential buyers being put off by its polarizing styling. It's all a little bit in-your-face and it's therefore unlikely to appeal to as wide an audience as the subtler and more mature Genesis G70.

Interior Space
Rear passenger space is quite a bit tighter in the back of the Lexus RC than the Genesis G70. Rear passengers in the 2019 Genesis G70 enjoy 34.8 inches of legroom, while those in the back of a 2019 Lexus RC will have to make do with 27.3 inches. The overall passenger volume tells the full story with 82 cubic foot in the RC, and a far more comfortable 93.8 cubic foot in the G70.

Our Conclusion
The 2019 Lexus RC will stand out from the crowd and it's excellent to drive, but not everyone is going to appreciate the styling, and the price is more than a little high. Even if the Lexus were faster, more powerful and better equipped than the 2019 Genesis G70, the Lexus would still lose out in the styling department. That's why we declare the 2019 Genesis G70 the winner of this competition.
